Intel stuff somewhat is new territory to me, have been a AMD user since the Pentium 2 days.For gaming and other light workload applications with the highest CPU boost clock, but when the applications require all CPU cores horsepower, it automatically switches to the Manual OC mode where it can utilize the high frequency for all the CPU cores. Tower cooler mode sets PL's to 288w and CPU current limit to 512A. So far from what I can tell Box Cooler mode sets both PL's to 181w and CPU current limit to 200A. Is my processor working as it should be? Is it a dud? Bios settings? Have only been using benchmark tools to make sure I got everything dialed in and working right and Temps are ok, not trying to run them hours on end. Max wattage is 180-205, 190ish seems the sweet spot. Obviously runs hotter I got 90-93C after 10 min run. I go to tower cooler mode PL 288w limits (with cpu lite load 3 to control Temps) and run cinebench R23 I get sustained 5.1 and 3.9 boosts on the cores and score 23500. When i run the cinebench r23 multicore test with the 181w limit, I only see my 13600k boost to 4.8 on P-cores and 3.8 on E-cores when fully loaded, wattage stays well below 181w.hwinfo64 under the MAX section for core power limit exceeded and Ring power limit exceeded both say "yes". I quickly set it to boxed cooler mode PL 181w limit and all was better. Once i figured out that was the cause of my 100c heat and thermal throttling.
When i first got my 13600k setup in my msi pro z790-p wifi it defaulted to water cooler mode with PL 4000w limits.
I'm used to a Ryzen 5700x, which will only boost to max speeds and consume 125ish watts when PBO is enabled for example, otherwise it operates within 65w and will boost all cores near max. Trying to figure out how this cpu is supposed to run at stock settings.
